It is a normal thing for any speed reader to initially assess the value of the information he will be reading. He also allows enough time to evaluate all the details before he starts. This is to ensure maximum speed reading capability when he starts.
In the process of analysing any given topic, speed readers test their ability to comprehend fast while reading at a fast rate. They also consider familiar topics and unfamiliar topics. Hence a familiar topic generate a faster reading rate than an unfamiliar one. As a reader makes progress in his reading ability, he checks his progress and analyses his speed reading abilities and evaluate his comprehension level.
A speed reader usually considers what he is going to get from any reading material, initially scanning through the content to familiarise himself with the content, then go on to carefully consider some unclear statements after completing the reading exercise.
For instance, some of the diseases that causes serious illness such as hay Fever, Asthma and Cholera are a result of infection from Dust mites. These Dust Mites feed on Dander from domestic pets and from human bodies.

Dust mite is responsible for causing allergies that result in Cholera, Hay fever and Asthma because they feed on Dander on animals and humans.
A speed reader would scan the information, check his understanding and move on to the next one once he grasps the meaning.

A consideration of the statement this way helps the speed reader to get a proper understanding of each and any paragragh and ideas clearly in his mind before progressing to the next one. Questions produces answers which lie between the lines in the material being considered.
As always expected, fast readers usually pick up topics of interest to them and considers them, However, some are happy to take up challenges to take up reading materials in areas not familiar to them and tries to decipher the meaning with the sole aim of widening their knowledge. Materials in these category lessens their speed reading rate.
The sole aim of every fast or speed reader is not merely to quickly cover a material but to read, fully comprehend, learn and speadily read any material in the shortest time possible.
